LOWDEN AQUATIC PARK PROJECT
The new Lowden Park Pool
was completed in summer 2008 thanks to the tremendous efforts put in by
our volunteer community workforce and monies donated by individuals and
grants. Completion of the pool was no small task and we thank
you all for your help! Now LAPP is determined
to keep the pool operating while also working to build the rest of the
Lowden Aquatic Park Project. The Lowden Park Pool offers many
programs including recreational, competition and lap swimming, swim
lessons, therapeutic programs, water safety, and aquatic
exercise. Area schools use the Pool as part of their Physical
Education curriculum. American Red Cross Life Guard Courses are offered
each year, and the District employs local teens as lifeguards and
instructors. Benefits from a renovated and expanded aquatic
center in Weaverville are substantial and include health, safety,
economic benefits, summer employment for teens, recreational
opportunity for youth and elderly of this community. Our goal
is to provide a community pool and associated facilities that include
the new pool, a toddler splash area, a therapy pool, new locker rooms,
a food concession stand, volley ball court – and much more. The Operation and
Maintenance of the Pool is an ongoing concern for Trinity County (which
owns the pool) because the Weaverville/Douglas City Parks and
Recreation District (which manages the pool) has been unable to recoup
its costs in recent years. LAPP has stepped in to help, but
heating and maintaining even a new efficient pool, is still quite
costly. Please

Dear Pool Supporter, The “old” Lowden Park Pool served Trinity County for 44 years, until in 2004 when the pool could not be opened because of its deteriorating condition. In 2005, the Lowden Aquatic Park Project (LAPP) formed, as a volunteer non-profit corporation, to support operation and maintenance of the historic and dysfunctional Weaverville pool, until a pool that would meet current health and safety codes could replace it. In 2008, we did it. Using grants, donations, and hard working volunteers, we finished the new Lowden Park Pool!
